Asura’s Wrath Demo (PS3 / Xbox 360)

Recently, Capcom posted the demo for Asura’s Wrath on PSN and XBL. I’ve been keeping my eye on this game’s development as it does look quite promising. I was still on the fence though, as to whether or not I wanted it, since as we know, Capcom has been sort of a mixed bag on the action games. With that said, I downloaded it and gave it a shot. Much to my delight I was surprised and thoroughly entertained by the demo. It features 2 boss battles of epic (literally) proportions.

The first part of the demo has you playing as Asura fighting a giant stone god. The battle changes gears several times with the game play having a heavy focus on Quick Time Events (QTE).

The second part of the demo is a DBZ-esque boss battle between Asura and another white haired rage junky.

I’m not going to get into the story because I don’t know the characters. But from a purely game play perspective, this is an entertainment/action game… Yeah. I mention both because for much of the demo I was merely pressing buttons on time and then they also mixed in some old school rail shooting and some old school beat’em up action. This will probably be what divides the players of this game between being a fan or not. One thing that is for certain is that the game is gorgeous, all the screens shown in this post are real time gameplay stills… Not just because it’s has luscious high def graphics utilizing the Unreal Engine 3, but also simply because of the sheer craftsmanship of all the models and textures. You can tell a lot of skilled work went into this game’s presentation.

I think it’s also worth noting that the developer of this game is CyberConnect2, the developer of the Naruto console games which are noted to being very close to the anime in both presentation and gameplay. They’ve also had great success with .hack series of games. Check out the wikipedia page on them for more info.

Asura’s Wrath demo is a free download, so I highly encourage you to download it and give it a chance. I know it’s too early to say how this game will be as a whole, but so far I’m pretty much guaranteed to be buying Asura’s Wrath on day 1.
