Nintendo’s in-house developed Super Metroid was a hit when it was released on the SNES in 1994. Today we’ve got the Japanese Super Metroid box art for the Japanese version of the Super Nintendo, the Super Famicom. The cover depicts Samus Aran fighting the Metroids, although it is illustrated differently than the US artwork.
Famous for its open world gameplay and weapon system, it’s gameplay inspired the term “Metroidvania” along with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Critics also noted Super Metroid’s sound design for its cinematic and ambient approach to things.
