Movies For Gamers is a section of BabysoftMurderhands.com where we post and discuss a trailer for a classic cult movie. The movies we select will hopefully be movies that gamers will love too. And of course, if you haven’t seen it, we’ll give you a link to get it.
Despite being way over budget and underwhelming to some people upon release, Star Trek The Motion Picture serves as a good time capsule for character driven science fiction. Star Trek was less about the matter at hand and more about the characters and their camaraderie. Kirk and Spock had a dynamic, and in the film these feelings are expressed. The characters show their age from the classic Star Trek series. Old school special effects give the film a retro quality. The theatrical version of the film has often been seen as too slowly paced… the best version is considered both by fans and critics to be Star Trek The Motion Picture Directors Cut which was released on DVD in 2001. It features improved pacing and enhanced special effects.
Star Trek actually has quite a few video games, only thing is… most of them aren’t that memorable. Some of the highlights include an arcade game made by Sega in 1983 and a PC DOS game called Star Trek Judgement Rites. There’s also a promising looking new game coming out in 2013 based on the Star Trek film reboot. Check out this list of Star Trek video games.
