Rayman Legends Delayed & Multiplatforms Announced

Ubisoft has announced that the highly anticipated follow up to Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends, has been delayed. Furthermore the title will also be seeing a multiplatform release, landing spots on the PS3, the Xbox 360, and Wii U. Rayman Legends was originally revealed last E3 as a Wii U exclusive and was set to launch alongside the Wii U last November. The game was however delayed until February, and now just mere weeks before its intended launch Ubisoft has pushed the release date for Rayman Legends into “early September.”

Managing Director of Ubisoft’s French Studios, Xavier Poix, in an interview with IGN, stated at the DICE summit in Las Vegas that “When we saw all the comments when we announced the game would be focused on Wii U, all of the people that have both the PlayStation 3 and 360 were really disappointed, so we thought it was making more sense to also bring the game to where it was originally from. That means Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. So we decided to go for a multiplatform launch simultaneously.”
Although Poix stated that all three versions are being developed by the same team, headed by renowned game designer and creator of Rayman Michel Ancel, the Wii U version would still be a unique experience because of the abilities that the Gamepad brings with asymmetrical gameplay. “It’s a different kind of experience if you have the Wii U,” Poix said. “Obviously there will be cooperation on the PS3 and 360, but on the Wii U there is still this magic of having one player that can play on one system with a new experience and the other on the usual game pad. That stays a Wii U exclusive for sure, by definition.”

  1. A release on multi-platform, I can support that. Delaying a game that is finished, which was promised to fans and behind the backs of its designers, messed up. Were not talking about a couple weeks or a month here, we are talking about delaying a finished game until September. Ubisoft should be hold accountable for this. The fact that they stated that they are offering a demo because they love their fans really ticks me off.
