Keiji Inafune’s New Zombie Game YAIBA Trailer and Screenshots

Keiji Inafune, the creator of Mega Man and producer of the Onimusha and Dead Rising series announced his new game, YAIBA. And guess what? It’s got zombies in it. Very little details are available about this upcoming zombie game as it is still in early development. We don’t even know what platforms it will be released on (Rumors online are hinting at it being a Wii U title but this is entirely unconfirmed). What we do know is that its a game is a “new concept consisting of zombies with action, ninjas and mechs.

Check out the official Yaiba teaser trailer including some glimpses of gameplay video below…

The creator of Yaiba, Keiji Inafune, breaks it down in his own words on his game development company, Comcept, website. “Since my departure from my former company in December of 2010, I have been thinking about how to live up to people’s expectations as an independent game creator.” He continues, “The expectation seems higher in the west. The expectation is clear. It’s for my next zombie game. There are countless zombie games out there, and yet, people say they want to see a new Inafune zombie game. I am flattered and grateful, for people associating me as a “Zombie Lover”. For that, I must, answer to this expectation. This new concept for my game was born some time after becoming independent. I don’t want to spoil everything just yet, but I hope you will enjoy my new game that is loaded with stuff I love, zombies, ninjas, robots, and action. It’s called “YAIBA”. I hope you are excited. I know I am.”

Yaiba screenshots (taken from teaser)…

Analysis of the Yaiba screenshots and trailer video show us a 3rd person action game. We can also see the visuals are highly stylized, cell shaded graphics. Hard to miss is the high amount of gore and violence in the game, a necessity for any zombie action game. You play as a ninja who appears to have a cybernetic arm. Not much more is known about the character at this point. It also appears that you will be in scenarios fighting various zombies at once and might even have some sort of “finishing moves.”

Again, this is all based on a very early development presentation of the game. Nothing is final at this point. We’ll keep you posted as more comes along Keiji Inafune’s new game.
