Movies For Gamers: Blade Runner (1982)

This is a section of BabysoftMurderhands.com where we post and discuss a trailer for a classic cult movie. The movies we select will hopefully be movies that gamers will love too. And of course, if you haven’t seen it, we’ll give you a link to get it.

As gamers, we go to the future a lot, we also fight androids on the reg. Blade Runner takes us to a dystopian future where androids called Replicants help us with the labors of space exploration. Some of these androids get weird over time and normally you can deactivate them. But others go rogue and become dangerous. Thats where the Blade Runner comes in. It’s his job to track them down and “retire” them. This movie set the aesthetic standard for alot of cyber punk works that came after it. Impressive special effects and a solid story merged via great direction by Ridley Scott make this movie a classic for gamers. Rutger Hauer also gives a memorable performance as one of the replicants.

Blade Runner has had just 2 video games over the years and neither of them exactly follows the story of the movie. The first Blade Runner game came out in 1985 for Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC. The second Blade Runner game, also with the same title was released more than a decade later (1997) for PC and was an adventure game with a different story than movie, but based in the same universe.
