Disney Closes Junction Point studio, Creators of Epic Disney series

These days, selling 270,000 copies across multiple systems just isn’t enough. Disney has opted to close the game development studio Junction PointJunction Point developed both Disney’s Epic Mickey and Epic Mickey 2.

Disney gave the following statement to Gamasutra..

It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our Games organization, which include the closure of Junction Point Studios. These changes are part of our ongoing effort to address the fast-evolving gaming platforms and marketplace and to align resources against our key priorities. We’re extremely grateful to Warren Spector and the Junction Point team for their creative contributions to Disney with Disney Epic Mickey and Disney Epic Mickey 2.

The first Epic Mickey title sold approximately 1.3 million copies shortly after its launch. In a similar timeframe, the sequel to that game, Epic Mickey 2, only sold 270 thousand copies. While not officially mentioned, one could guess that Epic Mickey 3 will probably never happen. Unfortunately, everyone in the company was laid off according to reports.
