Playable Torture Scene in Splinter Cell: Blacklist has Been Removed


The torture scene where you play as Sam Fisher and interrogate an enemy has been removed from Splinter Cell: Blacklist. The scene that was removed consisted of Sam Fisher jerking a knife into an enemy’s clavicle, also known as the collarbone. During this scene the player could twist the knife around inside to gain information. At the end of this scene the player also got to choose if the enemy lived or not. The producer Andrew Wilson stated “Definitely we are not going to see when the game’s coming out that there are torture scenes in it. That scene is not there anymore. I’ve not really heard anyone say they loved it…” Ubisoft has removed the scene because it was brutal and it had a negative reaction.  Andrew Wilson also said  the first few minutes of the demo, that the scene appeared in, is not necessarily indicative of the game’s overall tone. Wilson continued to say that it was possibly missing context and said “in an unabridged snapshot, it seemed like pretty tough material.” Andrew Wilson then also said “We’ve scaled a lot of that back, and as we’ve gone through the process of development there are always things that you feel are not working as well. Every game does this, and cuts certain things,” I personally thought that this scene in Splinter Cell: Blacklist sounded fantastic. But I suppose this is quite similar to being able to skip ‘brutal’ scenes out in Call Of Duty, now isn’t it? Or even the issue with Tomb Raider because of a scene with Lara Croft and some rapey bad guys. Splinter Cell: Blacklist is supposed  to be released August 20, 2013, for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
