Greetings one and all,
Today I will share with you a review of a movie most glorious, The Hitcher (1986). Starring C. Thomas Howell & Rutger Hauer, it tells the tale of a young man (Howell) and his constant battle with a murderous Vagabond (Hauer). Jim Hasley (Howell) is driving from Chicago to San Diego in a drive-away car, on his journey one stormy night, a tired and exhausted Hasley sees a lone hitch hiker in a long coat. He decides to stop and give the hitch hiker a lift, his name is John Ryder (Hauer). Now obviously this was brilliant judgement on the Hasley’s part, I mean some tall dude in a long trench coat is walking on the side of the highway late at night, during a storm… I mean who wouldn’t just pick up that random stranger? Overtime he slowly realizes that Ryder is not a safe person, and ask him to get out, when Ryder holds him hostage and Hasley boots him out of the car. He drives away feeling victorious, but Hasley soon learns, that his nightmare is only just beginning. The next day he finds that Ryder is still on his quest for blood in a station wagon with a family. Hasley tries to warn them, but to no avail. In a quick summary of the rest the kid seeks help at a diner, where he gets arrested by some cops that think he’s responsible for Ryder’s grizzly murders, then the cops get killed, and then the kid escapes. Then he holds some cops hostage, and just when it seems like he might be able to talk to someone who can help… BOOOM!!! Ryder kills the cops. So it ends in a long series of chases, with tons of havoc being brought upon the world by Ryder. In the end Ryder is arrested, but Hasley isn’t satisfied, he knows what needs to be done.
