Welcome to Cover Art! A section of the site where we look at a retro video game’s box cover art and briefly discuss it’s gameplay and legacy.
Final Fantasy VI was released on the Super Famicom to the Japanese public in 1994. Later that year, US gamers got it on the Super Nintendo but under the name Final Fantasy III. The Japanese version box art features the beautiful artwork of Yoshitaka Amano.
Final Fantasy VI is considered by many to be one of the best RPG’s in Square Enix’s (then Squaresoft) Final Fantasy series despite it’s changed US localization. The US SNES version is the most changed, with the Playstation and Gameboy Advance editions featuring more accurate translations.
