Welcome to Cover Art! A section of the site where we look at a retro video game’s box cover art and briefly discuss it’s gameplay and legacy.
Dungeons & Dragons Collection for the Sega Saturn is a compilation port of 2 great arcade beat’em ups by Capcom released in 1999. It includes Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom and Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara. The cover art is classic D&D affair, with bad ass warriors and a deadly dragon.
Sadly, this collection never made it stateside due to the Sega Saturn’s poor sales. It was also too beefy a game to port to the Playstation, as even the Saturn (which had superior 2D capabilities) was reduced from 4 players to 2 players. With that said, they were originally arcade games, and at the time (and maybe even today) stand as 2 of the best and most advanced brawlers you can play. These would be great games for Virtual Console, PSN and XBLA.
