Long time no post guys,

I’ve been busy lately and got a little distracted from the blog, but now I’m back and to kick things off I’ve got an indie game review. The game I’ve chosen is a cute puzzle platformer called Perspective. You play a dog, who’s trying to reach his, a little old lady. There’s actually a nice ending to it, so its worth playing through. The game is simple enough, at the beginning, but later it gets more challenging. Unfortunately, the game is pretty short, so it does feel like there should be more coming when the game then just kinda ends. Which really does feel sad, but I’d really love to see a sale version of this game with more levels (I realize that not a lot of people want to create 200 levels and not get paid). All in all I give this game a 4.5 out of 5. A more detailed rating can be seen below.

Graphics and design: 8 of 10
Sound Design: 8 of 10
Gameplay:9 of 10
Concept: 9 of 10
Controls: 8 of 10
Fun: 8 of 10
Level Design: 8

Cheers,

Old Man Jenkins

Did you never get to beat Super Mario Bros?

Are you too busy now, as an adult, to beat it?

Well, Swedish game designer Johan Peitz has got just the thing for you…

He’s created a game called “A Super Mario Summary” which is an adaption of the original Super Mario Bro’s game from the NES. He’s converted it to a single screen puzzle platformer. Yes… each level is composed of a single screen in which you must figure out how to make it to the flag pole. This type of game is very popular with Flash game designers and mobile game designers. He created this game, apparently in just 48 hours for the 23rd Ludum Dare 48 hour game development challenge! Wow!

You can play it here!

It’s quite enjoyable and definitely worth a look!

Today I’ll be telling you all about a nice retro-inspired game I found, Magic Steel.

MAGIC STEEL

Platform: Flash

Idea: 3:5
An oldskool Action -Platformer, using classic design, and a simple level up system. You have 5 basic parts to level up: Magic Attack, Mana, Shield, Fire Rate, & Jump Booster.

Graphics: 3.5:5
Enemy design consists of standard anime mechs, done up as classic 16-bit sprites

SoundDesign: 4:5
Chiptune PowerRock reminicent of the Sega Genisis. This is complimented by the simple but nicely chosen chiptune SFXs.

Controls: 5:5
Tight, Responsive, and simple controls.
Key layout can be customized, but the default setting also work very well.

Fun: 5:5
challenging fast pace and interesting gameplay. Very fun, not too easy, but a bit short.

ReplayValue: 0:5
None Really… and again its kinda short. The boss battle was pretty easy too, which was kind of disappointing.

All in All: 3.5
I say play it and beat it, it was worth the time. Also, if you don’t like keyboards for gaming, I recommend getting a joystick to keyboard mapping software.

Cheers,
The Last Demi-Wolf
